Staying on Track: My Branding Process Guide

As I navigate this lovely world of design, I have found a few things that seem to make my life easier and my clients happier. Hiring a designer and building a new brand is understandably a huge decision and a significant investment for any business owner.  While us designers tend to think the design process is pretty straight forward { as we throw around our design lingo and talk about our turn times and such } it’s not always as easy for our clients to follow.  Most of them do not live in our world and for some, the branding process is new territory.  And even if this isn’t their first experience with a designer, all of us do things a little differently.

I strive to be as transparent and thorough as possible with my clients through my interviews, questionnaires, and proposals. And while I thought I ran a pretty tight ship with my branding process through email updates, phone calls, etc., I really wanted a detailed roadmap to give to them as we started our process together.  I decided to design a one-sheeter pdf detailing my branding process to send to clients after their initial inquiry.  I have found that keeping my clients informed of my process, explaining what each step entails, and showing them how we get to our final deliverable helps my clients feel at ease with their decision to hire me and leads to a smooth branding process.  As my branding process grows and changes, as I’m sure it will, so to will my trusty little branding guide.

Designer side note:  Not only does this make for a happier client, it also reigns in your focus.  Establishing your own brand guide helps you zero-in on your own process, develop your own milestones, and most importantly forces you to stick to them yourself.  We all know we could use a little more structure in our day to day lives and who better to establish that than you.  And sure, not every client is the same nor every brand design, but this sets the stage for a beautiful end product.

The guide below is a screenshot of my process and the full pdf is available to view on my website.  I hope this helps inform my lovely clients and inspire my fellow designers!  { website design process pdf is in progress…stay tuned }

New Website Launch for Llorente Design

I am pumped to show of this colorful, clean new site I designed for Christine, the owner and talented designer at Llorente Design out of Miami Florida.  Christine is a unique client, as she is also a graphic designer and already had a beautiful brand in place before we met.  I am always a tad picky when it comes to designing a site for an already established brand, but I knew when I saw Christine’s style, logo, and color palette that we were going to make a great team.   I also knew she was a lovely person because she is pals with one of my sweetest clients, Haydee of Sweetest Celebrations, down in Miami.  Christine has such a fantastic eye for design and makes some killer paper products for weddings, photobooths, save-the-dates, etc.   So, please take a sec and show Christine some love by visiting her newly launched site!  Christine – Thank you so much for letting me join creative forces with you on this project!

New Brand Launch: Sweetest Celebrations

Haydee has to be one of my sweetest clients to date.  She is the owner and talented event stylist and coordinator of Sweetest Celebrations located in Miami, Florida. She came to me looking for a soft feminine “parisian chic” feel for her new brand.  We hand drew the “sweetest” in a semi traditional calligraphy style and added “celebrations” in the beautiful Anna Clara typeface.  The light blush ombre watercolor provides a perfect balance to the bold romantic black and gold tones.  Haydee – I know this took me forever to post and you are already taking over the event planning world by now!

New Brand Launch: Ashley Lynn Fry Photography & Creative Styling

Another fellow creative that I had the opportunity to work with back in 2013…check out the new new look for Ashley Lynn Fry Photography & Creative Styling.  Ashley is an awesomely talented wedding photographer who also has a serious talent for styling and coordinating events.  She was looking for a handwritten logo that highlighted her initials “ALF” since her name is a pretty long one.  Succulents inspired the green focused color palette and we added in a touch of black and gold to round out the look.  You can check out how we got to the final result by taking a peak at her brand inspiration board below.  Ashley – Thanks for being a great client and I wish you all the best with your new brand launch!

New Brand Launch: Sweet Lilac Photography

Since the closing out of 2013 was so busy, I am a little behind in sharing some of the beautiful brands I had the opportunity to design last year.  In light of the freezing temps around lately…here is the warm, comfy, new brand for Sweet Lilac Photography.  Courtney, owner and photographer behind Sweet Lilac, was looking for her new brand to really reflect her personal and professional style.  She always found herself gravitating towards a warm, muted color palette with rustic undertones and her Pinterest pins and questionnaire answers really helped me nail down her new look.  Below you will find her inspiration board, a few logos that didn’t quite make the cut, and her final new look {that was actually a combo of her favorite aspects from 2 of the 4 logo choices she was originally presented}.

New Brand Launch: Pineapple Studios

Happy {belated} New Year!  I am so excited to finally share the new Pineapple Studios brand and custom WordPress website with you guys today.  Jess, the owner, yoga instructor, and pottery lover, behind Pineapple Studios’ unique concept, came to me back in the fall to help create her new brand.  This project is special to me because it is a local business here in Wilmington, North Carolina. Most of my clients find me from all over the US and beyond {which is totally amazing to work with people all over} but it was nice to work with Jess locally, discuss her vision over a warm cup of coffee, and see her studio come together from start to finish in person.  I had so much fun creating Jess’s brand with a handwritten brush pen and a splash of watercolor and carrying her new look throughout her custom WordPress website.

She is celebrating her grand opening at her studio in downtown Wilmington this weekend.  So, to all my local followers and Wrightsville Beach vacationers, be sure to check out the New Pineapple Studios on Front Street and visit her new site WordPress website we developed at www.lovepineapplestudios.com to learn more.   Jess – good luck with your grand opening this weekend and I can’t wait to get dirty in a pottery class soon!

New Brand Launch: The Fit Foodie

Pretty pumped to show off the new look I created with Carly from The Fit Foodie.   She is a registered dietitian out in San Deigo/La Jolla, CA area who was on a mission to develop a fresh new brand for her business.  Carly was going for a clean, modern look with a touch of hand written scrip and kraft to pull it all together.   We developed a soft, mostly neutral color palette with pops of mint and blush to add a feminine touch.  Carly’s custom WordPress website followed suit with clean white spaces, bold lines and color blocked buttons.  Check out a snapshot of the new Fit Foodie Brand below and be sure to visit her new site to see more.  Carly – Thanks for trusting me with your new brand!  I enjoyed working with you and can’t wait to see where you take your new business from here.

NEW BRAND LAUNCH: THE LITTLE THINGS

The end of this year has been super busy and this is just one of the brands I will be launching as we round out 2013.  And man, where do I start with this one…I pretty much love everything about The Little Things‘ new look.  I  was initially intrigued when Alexis, the owner, designer, and planner at TLT, described her overall vision for her rebrand as “modern bohemian.”  The initial mood board shown below seemed to be right on target with what Alexis was looking for and everything came together from there.  From the stationery to the custom wordpress website, I can say I really had a lot of fun working on this project.  Alexis – thanks for being absolutely fantastic to work with and I can’t wait to watch your business grow with your new look.  Be sure to check out a couple shots of Alexis’ awesome work below and visit her site to see it all!
